Cllr Paul McNamara
Fianna Fáil councillor Paul McNamara has topped the poll in the Belmullet Electoral Area but narrowly failed to get elected on the first count.
The Achill based councillor picked up an impressive 1,745 first preference votes which means he has just 92 votes to collect to get past the quota of 1,837.
Erris-based councillor Gerry Coyle (FG) took the second most number of votes with 1,519 while his fellow Erris man Seán Carey (FF) polled 1,455 which should be enough for him to regain his seat on Mayo County Council.
Belmullet-based Sinn Féin candidate polled 1,079 first preference votes while Tiernaur-based Fine Gael candidate Pat Chambers polled 1,052.
The remaining three candidates, Independent John Paul Carey, Green Party's Micheál 'Boxty' Ó Conaill and Independent Jay Heneghan received 331, 117 and 48 votes respectively.
Ó Conaill and Heneghan were eliminated and their votes are currently being distributed to the remaining five candidates.
