RIP: Tributes after sibling of Mayo resident passes in single-vehicle collision

PAT Skehan, Holycross, Thurles, formerly of Moycarkey (RIP) brother of Margaret Rattigan, Irishtown, Mayo

PAT Skehan, Holycross, Thurles, and formerly of Moycarkey, who died in recent days, was a brother of Margaret Rattigan, Irishtown, Mayo.

The popular publican died following a single vehicle road collision in Holycross.

Pat was a hugely popular member of the Holycross community, home of the famed John Doyle, the legendary Tipperary hurler of former times.

Local Tipperary councillor Jim Ryan said Pat was so well known and such a lovely man. “Pat Skehan’s Bar was a landmark in the village.

WPat had a great talent for pouring a great pint of Guinness. It’s a sad day for the whole parish but it was a lovely old-fashioned pub, people loved going in there and he was well known and popular man.”

Kevin and Regina O’Meara, Marlstone, Thurles, captures the essence of Pat with this reflection:

“Thanks, Pat, for all the great memories we shared through the years. You were salt of the earth and a heart of gold. Your DNA is engrained in Holycross history for sure.”

Reposing was in Hugh Ryan’s Funeral Home, Thurles, and Requiem Mass was celebrated in Holycross Abbey, followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery.

Pat will be sadly missed by his sisters Margaret (Rattigan, Irishtown), Mary (Ryan), Frances (Tynan) and Catherine (Quinlan), brothers Michael, Tom, John and William, aunt Sr Philomena, in-laws, cousins, neighbours and friends.
