Mayo Fianna Fail Senator Lisa Chambers.
Senator Lisa Chambers, Fianna Fáil’s European Election candidate for the Midlands North West and Spokesperson on EU and Foreign Affairs, has welcomed Ireland’s announcement to formally recognise the State of Palestine this morning.
“This is a hugely significant and historic moment for our country and for the international community,” Senator Chambers stated. “The Irish Government's decision is a powerful statement of our commitment to peace, justice, and the recognition of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.”
Senator Chambers expressed her hope that this recognition would serve as a catalyst for positive change, helping to bring about a much-needed ceasefire and an end to the violence in Gaza.
“The situation in Gaza is dire, with ongoing conflict causing immense suffering and loss of life. The international community must act decisively to support efforts towards a peaceful resolution.”
“Ireland’s recognition of Palestine is a step in the right direction and a call for other nations to join in acknowledging the need for a two-state solution. Our government’s decision reflects the values of compassion and solidarity that are central to our nation’s foreign policy.”
As the Spokesperson on EU and Foreign Affairs, Senator Chambers reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for Ireland’s role in promoting peace and stability in the region.
“We must continue to work with our international partners to ensure that this recognition translates into meaningful progress towards peace.
“Let us hope that this momentous decision helps to pave the way for a ceasefire, ending the cycle of violence and paving the way for lasting peace and security for both Israelis and Palestinians," Senator Chambers concluded.
