Driver arrested after Gardaí seize tractor that had no tax or insurance in north Mayo

The driver has been brought before the courts after he was found to have no tax, no insurance or no driver’s licence
Gardaí from Mayo North Community Engagement were carrying out mobile patrols on Tuesday evening when they stopped a tractor and carried out a series of roadside checks using Active Mobility technology.
The checks revealed that the driver was disqualified from driving and had no valid insurance. Gardaí also established that the driver did not hold a valid driving licence, while the vehicle's motor tax had expired more than 2,600 days ago. The driver was arrested at the scene, and the tractor was seized.
Under current legislation, driving while disqualified carries a maximum penalty of a €5,000 fine and/or up to six months in prison, along with an additional two-year driving disqualification. Driving without insurance carries the same maximum fine and prison sentence, as well as a mandatory two-year disqualification.
The defendant subsequently appeared before Castlebar District Court in relation to the alleged offences. The matter was adjourned to 13 October, when the defendant is due to appear before Ballina District Court.
