One Mayo driver got more than they bargained for when popping in to collect a pizza in Ballyhaunis, when they were handed a €150 fine for leaving their car in a disabled bay.

The incident occurred in Ballyhaunis in the latter hours of yesterday evening (Monday, January 26).

In a post on the 'An Garda Síóchána Mayo' Facebook page, Gardaí underlined a zero-tolerance approach to the misuse of disabled parking bays.

"These spaces are vital, limited, and not optional," they stated. "They exist for people who truly need them, not for convenience or 'just a minute' as was the case with this driver."
