'Parked without permit with hazards flashing ' - Driver in Mayo fined

The Mayo Roads Policing were on patrol in Ballyhaunis yesterday evening as part of their Christmas Road Safety Campaign.

They observed a vehicle parked in a disabled parking bay without a valid permit with its hazard lights flashing as if that made it ok.

The driver stated he was just collecting food from a local establishment. A €150 Fixed Charge Penalty Notice was issued to the driver.

An Garda Síochána Mayo remind the public: "We take a zero-tolerance approach to the misuse of disabled parking bays. These spaces are vital for people with disabilities to access essential services often needing extra space for wheelchairs or lifts."

Illegally parked cars block these spaces, causing significant hardship and limiting independence for disabled individuals.

They conclude their message: "Let’s all play our part and keep this festive season accessible for everyone."
