Drug-driving offenses handled in Mayo courts have risen sharply this year.
The Ballina and Castlebar District Courts have seen a combined increase of 62 per cent in 2025.
That's according to figures provided by the Irish Court Service.
The trend reflects a steady rise since 2020 — but this year has seen a particularly sharp rise.
A total of 1,499 people faced district court proceedings for drug driving in 2024.
But this has already risen by 37% in the first 10 months of 2025, with 2025 marking the highest level on record for drug driving prosecutions in our district court system.
Especially the Ballina District Court has seen a huge rise in cases this year: Only ten months in, already 167 per cent more cases for drug-driving have been recorded. The figures jumped from 3 to 8.
Cases at the Castlebar District Court have increased from 13 to 16.
