The van stopped by An Garda Siochana on the N17 in Mayo
The Mayo Roads Policing Unit stopped a this van on the N17 after the driver struggled to stay in their lane.
It turned out, they were texting while driving.
Distracted driving is defined as any behaviour that diverts a driver’s attention from the road.
An Garda Siochana inform, that according to the Road Safety Authority, distracted driving — including mobile phone use — is estimated to be a contributing factor in 20–30% of all collisions on Irish roads.
If you are detected holding a mobile phone while driving, you will receive a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice (FCPN) of €120 and 3 penalty points on your driving licence.
An Garda Siochana urge the public: "Please remember: no message is worth risking your life or someone else’s."
