Historical Society to host special talk on Mayo town life before 1926

Restored photographs and local stories are set to feature at the free event in Claremorris
Claremorris Historical Society is inviting the public to step back in time with a special illustrated presentation exploring life in Claremorris in the early 20th century.
The event, titled “Through the Streets of Claremorris 1900–1925”, will take place at Claremorris Town Hall on Monday, May 18, at 7.45pm.
The talk has been organised to coincide with the recent publication of the 1926 Census and will offer a rare glimpse into everyday life in the Mayo town in the years leading up to it.
Attendees will see full-colour images of local people and places from the early 1900s, carefully restored by Andrew Newman. The photographs will be accompanied by stories and historical insights from local historian Colmán Ó Raghallaigh.
Organisers say the event will give people an opportunity to experience what Claremorris was like more than a century ago, through images capturing streets, businesses and residents of the era.
All are invited to attend and admission to the event is free.
