BILLY Vize, Luí na Gréine, Claremorris, Mayo, who died in Castlebar Hospital last week, was well known around Claremorris town down through the years.

His area of expertise was in the field of mechanic work and he served as an employee of Paddy O’Brien’s Motors, D’Alton Street, Claremorris, for several years.

Billy was often called up on by locals to attend to various mechanical problems with their cars broke down. Bridie Mannion, in her tribute, commented: “Many of times Billy got me out of trouble when my car broke down.”

Tick Higgins said: “We have many fond memories of Billy especially when his expertise was required and many laughs too.”

Reposing was in Gilligan’s Funeral Home, on Monday evening with removal to St Colman’s Church, Claremorris. Fr Peter Gannon, PP, celebrated the Mass on Tuesday afternoon and this was followed by a private cremation.

Fr Peter told the congregation that Billy was a gifted mechanic who “got many back up and running and who were always grateful to him for that talent”.

The Claremorris Parish Choir delivered a lovely rendition of ‘Abide With Me’ as the coffin was wheeled won the aisle of Claremorris Church.

Billy, who was predeceased by his parents Joe and Mary Vize, is survived by his brother Padráig, extended family, neighbours and friends.
