Eleven Mayo dancers qualify for World Irish Dancing Championships

The young Mayo dancers are off to Chicago in March to compete in the World Championships.

The Turley Duggan Academy of Irish Dancing in Claremorris has announced that eleven of its dancers have qualified to compete at the World Irish Dancing Championships, which is set to take place in Chicago in March 2026.

The dancers secured their places following qualifying competitions and will represent their school and communities on the international stage. Faye Horan, Aoife Slattery, Maiya Allworthy, Molly Collins, and Ella Morley have qualified from Claremorris.  They will be joined by

  • Rachel O’Boyle (Carrowkeel, Ballyhaunis)
  • Amy Coyle (Derryronan, Swinford)
  • Ruth Elle Slattery (Knock)
  • Megan Keadin (Irishtown)
  • Nathan Gannon (Cloonfad)
  • Caelainn Kilkenny (Belcarra, Castlebar)

The qualification marks a significant achievement for the dancers, reflecting years of training and preparation. Teachers at the academy said the success is the result of consistent commitment and dedication from the dancers.

Competing at the World Championships also involves considerable costs, including travel, accommodation, and competition expenses. To support the dancers’ participation, the academy has begun fundraising efforts and is seeking sponsorship from local businesses and the wider community.

A series of fundraising events are planned in the coming months, including a large raffle. Further information on fundraising activities and donation options is available through the academy’s social media pages on Instagram and Facebook.
