The family have been closely associated with the farming scene over the years while also lending support to Garrymore with whom Johnny’s brother, Michael, played with for a while back in the 1960s.
Johnny was a man of quiet and gentle disposition who always had time to share with friends he met along the way. He was a well read man who kept himself up to date with news stories from around the region and around the country and was always happy to engage in conversations about a wide range of topics.
Mary Coleman, Carradoyne House, was among those that joined in the tributes to her neighbour. “Johnny was a gentleman and a wonderful farmer all of his life.
"That was plain to be seen as one drove by his green pastures and fields. Johnny had a sharp eye when it came to livestock. He bought and kept nothing but quality stock including Charolais, Limousin and Angus breeds.
“Johnny Dolan got many prizes down through the years at our local marts. His fine quality stock was quickly noticed on entering the Marts where Johnny got 1st prize so many times over the years.”
Reposing was at St Colman’s Funeral Home, Claremorris, with removal to the Church of the Sacred Heart, Crossboyne. Interment took place in Crossboyne cemetery following the funeral Mass.
Johnny will be sadly missed by his brother Michael (Baltimore, USA), his sisters Sr Carmel (England), Bridget (Breda) Hession (Frenchgrove) and Greta Dolan (Corroughadooey), sister-in-law, niece and nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.
