Summer is back in Mayo with temperatures to rise to 25 degrees Celsius

Claremorris to experience high of 25 degrees Celsius tomorrow afternoon in mini-heatwave

Summer is to make a welcome return to Mayo tomorrow with temperatures expected to rise to a high of 25 degrees Celsius tomorrow afternoon.

Mayo is expected to be one of the hottest counties in Ireland over the next few days with the mercury expected to reach 25 degrees Celsius in the south of the county on Thursday afternoon.

Met Éireann are forecasting that Claremorris will be the warmest place in Mayo tomorrow with temperatures expected to reach a high of 25 degrees Celsius in late afternoon while arrivals to Ireland West Airport will also receive a warm welcome with the mercury also expected to reach 25 degrees Celsius during the day.

The west of the county will also see high temperatures with Met Éireann forecasting that Newport will see a high of 24 degrees Celsius while Belmullet will be slightly cooler at 23 degrees Celsius. The good news is the warm temperatures are expected to continue into the weekend with temperatures to exceed 20 degrees Celsius on Friday and will be in the high teens on Saturday.

The mini-heatwave will be a welcome relief for many holiday makers to Mayo who have experienced heavy rainfall and dull weather conditions for the last number of weeks. The amount of rainfall for June in three of the four Mayo weather stations already exceeds the total rainfall for this May and June of 2024.

However the hot spell will not last as long as the May heatwave with rain not too far away. Thunder showers are expected to disrupt the sunshine late on Sunday and Monday and heavy showers are expected in many parts of the county next week.
