West Mayo arts centre announces array of events this month

The Linenhall, Castlebar, has announced an extensive line up for the month of May.
The Linenhall Arts Centre is set to host an array of events this May.
A highlight of the month’s programme is the Bealtaine Arts Festival celebration on Thursday, May 14, where over-50s are invited to take part in the ‘Urban Sketch Club’. Led by artist Betty Gannon in collaboration with Custom House Studios, Westport, the event encourages participants of all skill levels to explore the art of urban sketching.
Theatre lovers can look forward to the acclaimed production ‘Grace’ on Sunday, May 17. Written by Jody O’Neill, the powerful and moving drama explores the life of a non-verbal autistic girl and the deep bond she shares with her father. The production will feature accessible performance elements and ISL sign language interpretation to ensure an inclusive experience for audiences.
Traditional music fans can look forward to May 21, as Mayo musicians and composers Alannah Thornburgh and Stephen Dohery perform an intimate concert featuring harp and flute.
Speaking ahead of the event, Stephen Doherty expressed his excitement for the upcoming concert in his home county.
“We both spend so much time on the road performing in other places, it’s going to be a lovely experience to sit down and bring home many of the compositions we’ve both created over the past number of years and share our musical journey.”
Tadhg J Devery brings his show ‘Pints, Dentures, and Rock and Roll’ to the Linenhall on Friday, May 22.
Furthermore, the Linenhall will host an inclusive Story Circle facilitated by Carolyn Claire Mitchell, inviting adults to experience the tradition of live storytelling through spoken word and shared narrative. There will be live performances on the night from the Harmonia Choir, led by Finola Higgins, with special guest Sean Duane appearing on the same evening.
Community fundraising will also feature prominently in the programme with the ‘FoodFest Fundraiser’ taking place on Wednesday, May 20, in aid of St. Anthony’s School Bus.
The Linenhall is also encouraging artists to take part in its Gallery Open Call for Submissions for 2027 and 2028 exhibitions. The initiative aims to support emerging and established artists by providing opportunities to showcase work in a respected exhibition space. Applications will be accepted until Friday, June 26, at 5 pm.
