€1.6m Lough Lannagh project in Castlebar moves to construction

Contracts signed for new climbing wall, gym and outdoor activity facilities
According to Mayo-based minister Alan Dillon, a major €1.6 million outdoor pursuits and climbing wall project at Lough Lannagh in Castlebar is now moving to the construction stage.
Minister Dillon confirmed that contracts have been signed with Kenaidan Contractors for the project, which will deliver a significant new sporting and tourism asset for the town.
The development will include an 11-metre competition-standard climbing wall, as well as a new gym, training facilities and outdoor activity facilities.
Minister Dillon said the project represented “a major win for Castlebar”.
“The contracts are now signed with Kenaidan Contractors for the €1.6m Lough Lannagh Outdoor Pursuits and Climbing Wall project,” he said. “I worked closely with Minister Patrick O’Donovan and the Sports Capital team over the summer to secure the additional funding needed to get this project moving - and now it’s moving to construction.”
The new facilities are expected to strengthen Castlebar’s offering for sports, outdoor recreation and tourism, while providing additional opportunities for local people and visitors.
Minister Dillon also thanked Cathaoirleach Ger Deere, Cllr Cyril Burke and Cllr Donna Sheridan for their work in helping to progress the project.
The Lough Lannagh development is expected to become an important addition to Castlebar’s existing outdoor recreation infrastructures.
