Davitt College, Castlebar, is celebrating national success after its 2025 production of ‘Rock of Ages’ earned seven awards at the Best of Ireland Secondary School Stage Awards. 

The production, staged last November, marked a major milestone as the school’s 40th musical. 

More than 120 students took part in the production, contributing across cast, backstage, and technical roles. 

Produced by Dave Mac Donnacha and directed by Damien Gallagher, who received the award for Best Director, the show also featured musical direction by Claire Kennedy and choreography by Emma Coleman of ECM Dance.

The production team’s creativity was further recognised with the award for Best Set Design, awarded to James Cunningham, Síle Hughes and their crews. Meanwhile, the cast as a whole was honoured with the Best Acting Ensemble award, highlighting the strength and cohesion of the group performance.

Individual accolades were also a key part of the evening’s success. Daisy Finnerty won Best Acting (Female) for her role as Sherrie Christian, while Myles Girling-Moore took home Best Acting (Male) for his portrayal of Lonny Barnett. Bella Kearney received the award for Best Acting (Co-Star Female) for her performance as Denise Dupree, and Ben O’Brien was recognised with Best Vocals (Co-Star) for his role as Drew Boley.

Other Davitt College students were also recognised on the night through nominations, highlighting the depth of talent involved in the production. Oisin Toland was shortlisted for Best Acting (Co-Star Male) for his role as Stacee Jaxx, Jennis Ann Sarish was nominated for Best Vocals (Co-Star) for her performance as Justice Charlier, and Conor McDonagh was nominated in the Comedy (Male) category for his portrayal of Franz Klineman.
