The Jalopy Coffee Bar has officially opened for business at Lough Lannagh, bringing a new coffee dock to one of Castlebar’s most popular outdoor amenities.
The vintage-style coffee truck, operated by Mark Munnelly and Wiebke Zuber, was formally launched yesterday (Sunday, February 22), with local representatives and supporters in attendance.
Councillor Ger Deere was the first customer served as the Jalopy Coffee Bar commenced trading at the lakeside location. He had campaigned for a number of years to have a coffee facility established at Lough Lannagh and welcomed the development.
“I’m delighted to see Wiebke and Mark kick off their new Jalopy Bar venture at Lough Lannagh,” he said. “That adds another jewel to Lough Lannagh’s crown and will no doubt be a huge success. I encourage all users of our wonderful lake facility to support the business and treat yourself on these chilly mornings to the finest of teas, coffees and snacks.”

The introduction of new trading bylaws by the Castlebar Municipal District last year paved the way for the facility. Following an expression of interest process, the Jalopy Coffee Bar was awarded the licence and will initially operate five days a week.
The Jalopy Bar first opened its hatch at Moneen Industrial Estate in Castlebar in November 2024. The business, run from a converted vintage Citroën HY van, has since built up a strong local following.
Cllr Harry Barrett, who also attended the launch of this new coffee truck, said the new addition was a welcome boost for the town. “It’s great for Castlebar. You can get your coffee at Lough Lannagh from today. I wish them every success,” he said.
Business hours are currently Wednesday to Sunday from 8am to 6pm.
The opening marks the latest enhancement at Lough Lannagh, a popular spot for walkers, swimmers and families, with hopes that further facilities will be added over time.
