Lidl Ireland announced Castlebar Social Services CLG as Mayo winner of the Lidl Green Fund.
Lidl Ireland has announced Castlebar Social Services CLG as Mayo Winner of the Lidl Green Fund. Castlebar Social Services will receive a €3,000 grant to support its Garden Space Revamp Project. The initiative aims to enhance biodiversity while creating a therapeutic outdoor area for the local community.
The Lidl Green Fund, launched in partnership with Business in the Community, was set up to support community-led projects that prioritise sustainability, healthy living, and social inclusion. Castlebar Social Services stood out for its commitment to developing an eco-friendly, inclusive space that benefits both people and the environment.
The funding will allow the organisation to transform its existing outdoor area into a vibrant, accessible, and sensory-rich garden, primarily for older citizens attending day services. The revamped space will offer a place for relaxation, social interaction, and light gardening, providing a “green lung” for the community while supporting local biodiversity.
Elaine O’Connor, Head of Sustainability at Lidl Ireland & Northern Ireland, said: “The Lidl Green Fund was created to support the grassroots projects that form the backbone of our local communities. Through this fund, we are able to invest in initiatives that promote social inclusion, sustainability, and long-term community welfare. We are delighted to support this year’s winners as they implement local solutions that drive real, positive change.”
Deirdre Waldron, Manager of Castlebar Social Services, welcomed the support: “We are absolutely delighted to be named the Mayo winner of the Lidl Green Fund. This grant allows us to breathe new life into our outdoor space, turning it into a sanctuary where our service users can connect with nature and each other. By focusing on biodiversity and sensory planting, we are creating a sustainable legacy that supports the mental and physical well-being of our older community members.”
Castlebar Social Services’ garden revamp is expected to begin this year, bringing a lasting green space to the heart of the Mayo community.
