Castlebar Rotary Club is set to host its annual fundraising event, the Tree of Remembrance, from Thursday, December 18 to Tuesday, December 23.

The initiative, which began in 2008, has raised significant funds for local charities over the years. The Tree of Remembrance provides members of the public with an opportunity to remember loved ones during the Christmas period while making a voluntary donation in support of charitable causes.

As in previous years, the Tree will be located on Hopkins Road, outside Dunnes Stores. Members of the public can remember someone, either living or deceased, by placing a ribbon on the Tree and making a voluntary contribution. All those remembered will be included in prayers at Mass in the Holy Rosary Church on Christmas Eve.

Funds raised through the initiative will support Castlebar Social Services, the club’s designated charity partner, as well as other Rotary-supported causes.

Launching the event, Rotary Club President John Mulroy said the project allows people to remember loved ones in a meaningful way while also supporting charities that provide important services in the local community: "The Club are delighted to support Castlebar Social Services which provides much needed services in the local community.

"We are again appealing to the people of Castlebar and all visitors to the Town during this festive period to take some time out and visit The Tree of Remembrance on Hopkins Road and take part in this unique event.”
