Road users in Castlebar are being warned to expect delays as Mayo County Council have announced road surfacing works are expected to take place in the area.

Starting at 9am today (Friday, July 18), the L-1710, more commonly known as the Derrywash Road, will be closed in order for the road resurfacing works to take place.

The works will run from 9am to 5pm on weekdays, and are anticipated to take place until next Friday, July 25, at 5pm.

The Council have also stated that traffic management will be in place throughout today and into next week, but that delays will be expected for commuters.

Drivers are advised to use alternate routes, with the Ballinrobe Road (the N-84), the Castlebar bypass (the N5), and the old Westport Road (the R-309) remaining open throughout.
