Mayo man Alan Clarke was in Portugal when the country, along with Spain, was plunged into a blackout yesterday evening
A popular Mayo influencer has described his experience as Portugal and Spain were plunged into a blackout as ‘f***ing chaos’.
Alan Clarke, who is known for his skits on travel and his place on the ‘BIG NEWS COMING SOON’ podcast, found himself at the centre of one of Europe’s biggest power outages last night (Monday, April 28).

The outage affected up to 50 million people across the two countries, and investigations are underway as to the cause of the outage, which caused unprecedented disruptions.
Speaking on his Instagram account, the popular internet personality shared his experience of the phenomenon.
“It’s carnage, it’s absolute f***ing chaos,” he stated
“Can’t get a bottle of water. A huge queue down the road. I’m being sent videos from the airport where there’s no taxis outside it.”
It’s starting to feel like the end of the world.”
The Castlebar man, who shared the news with his 128,000 followers on the app, detailed the throngs of people queuing outside the few restaurants who were still open and taking cash, a commodity given the fact that ATMs were rendered obsolete.
Mr Clarke also described the scenes as he ventured out to the streets to take stock of his surroundings.
“The more I was walking around and taking it all in, the more afraid I was getting,” said the influencer. “It’s a bit like being in a PlayStation game, one of those apocalyptic PlayStation games.
“It’s the end of the world, the streets are empty, there’s no streetlights in most places. All the shops, all the businesses, all the buildings, darkness.”
Thankfully for Alan and the millions of others descended into blackness, technicians in the Iberian Peninsula were able to restore power to over 90 percent of the population affected by this morning.
