Mayo University Hospital jumps to third-highest in ‘Trolley Watch’ figures

The hospital in Castlebar also recorded the second-highest number of those on trolleys in wards outside of the emergency department

The number of patients on trolleys in Mayo University Hospital has risen to 29, according to the latest ‘Trolley Watch’ figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO).

Today (Tuesday, April 22), MUH has the third-highest number of patients on trolleys nationwide. Only Tallaght University Hospital and University Hospital Limerick have recorded higher totals.

Of the 29 reported to be waiting to be seen in Castlebar, 13 are in the emergency department, representing a hike of nine from the INMO’s April 9 statistics.

Meanwhile, the number elsewhere in wards has fallen by one to 16.

Despite the marginal reduction, the figure of 16 in wards elsewhere is the second highest in the country, with only University Hospital Limerick ahead of MUH.
