Carrowholly 5km fun run set to take place this weekend

The countdown is on for the Carrowholly 5 km Run/Walk, which will take place on Sunday, June 14, at 11:00 am.

The race will be centred around Carrowholly National School, and organisers said the event promises to be a fantastic atmosphere for participants and spectators alike.

Organisers have said the race route will be revealed on the event’s social media channels during the week.

A free kids’ colour fun run will also be taking place. The colourful 750m event will give children the chance to enjoy the fun of race day in a safe, family-friendly environment and is expected to be one of the highlights of the morning.

Speaking ahead of the fun run, an organiser expressed their delight with the response so far to the event.

"The community support has been incredible. A special thank you to Tony Fitzgerald of Clew Bay Oysters and Anthony Murray of Westport Bike Shop, both past pupils of the school, who have been generous sponsors of the event. We'd also like to thank Carrowholly Stables for their support,” they said.

Participants are advised that parking on the day will be available at Westport Rugby Club. Organisers are encouraging people to car-share where possible to help reduce traffic and ease congestion around the event venue. Local residents are reminded that there will be minor traffic disruption during the event.

To avoid delays on race morning, participants are encouraged to collect their race numbers from the national school on Saturday, June 13, between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm. Race number collection will also be available on the morning of the event from 9:30 am to 10:30 am, with registration closing promptly at 10:30 am.

Following the races, refreshments will be served in the school, providing an opportunity for participants, families and supporters to relax and enjoy the community atmosphere.
