The Irish boxing team departed today for the 2025 European U-23 Championships in Budapest, Hungary with one Mayo boxer involved.

The team includes boxers from nine different counties with Mayo having one representative. Team Ireland is comprised of 2025 National U-23 champions, and includes Natalia Fasciszewska from the Castlebar Boxing Club. Natalia will fight in the 57kg weight division.

Team Ireland are among almost 300 boxers from 33 federations contesting for gold at this inaugural confederation level World Boxing U-23 championships.

Following the National U-23 Championships in August, the team’s preparations included a ten-week block of training at the High Performance Unit on the Sport Ireland campus, a three-day international Round Robin with an Ulster Select, England and Hungary, in October, a two-International series against India in November, and an U-23 versus Elites sparring series in the High Performance Unit in November.

The European Championships are taking place in Budapest, Hungary, for the next week. The draw, which sets out the path to the podium for each boxer in a given weight category, will take place on Saturday at 8pm Irish time. Preliminary rounds, including quarter finals, will be boxed from November 23 to 26. Thursday November 27 is a rest day and semi finals will be boxed on November 28 with all finals taking place from 2pm on November 29. It is expected that the championships will be live-streamed with the team returning home on Sunday, November 30.
