Delivery of petrol and diesel on Achill Island to ease concerns of island motorists
Motorists on Achill Island will be relieved after a delivery of petrol and diesel was made to the only filling station on the Mayo island after it ran out of fuel this morning.
Lavelle's Circle K situated in Cashel on Achill Island confirmed on its Facebook page that a delievery of fuel arrived after 2pm this afternoon.
The filling station was left with both diesel and petrol this morning after its scheduled weekly delivery was unable to arrive due to a blockade of the fuel depot in Galway by fuel protestors. While the blockade is still ongoing in Galway, the filling station managed to avail of a delivery of fuel which left from the Dublin depot this morning.
The blockade of fuel depots has led to an upsurge in demand for petrol and diesel at filling stations around Mayo with reports of many filling station expressing concern that their tanks will be emptied by the end of the day if new deliveries are not made.

Lavelle's is the only filling station on Achill Island and motorists seeking fuel had to travel an additional 20km to Mulranny to reach Doherty's Applegreen filling station which is the closest filling station to Achill.
The demand for petrol and diesel in Mulranny led to massive queues of traffic in the west Mayo village with motorists waiting close to 30 minutes to fill their tank.
