Minister for Rural and Community Development Dara Calleary has welcomed the allocation of a six-figure sum to Mayo County Council for the refurbishment and re-letting of housing units to people on the social housing list.
The funding of €655,120 is an increase of €164,366 on the 2025 allocation.
Minister Calleary spoke in support of the funding.
"This is a very useful and very important funding stream for local authorities and the funding secured for Mayo will allow Mayo County Council to carry out planned maintenance on a number of properties and to bring a number of other properties back into a habitable state," he stated, "allowing them to be refurbished and re-let to people on the housing list.
"Since 2014 the Department has provided funding of €3.8m to Mayo County Council for the return to use of 550 vacant local authority dwellings.
"I look forward to the works being carried out in this latest tranche of funding in a timely manner so that we can start to re-let these units to people who urgently require accommodation."
