At present, Mayo is under a Met Éireann Status Orange Weather Warning due to Storm Bram
Mayo could yet see an upgrade to a Status Red Weather Warning from Met Éireann as Storm Bram makes landfall on the Atlantic coast, according to one weather expert.
Cathal Nolan, founder of Ireland's Weather Channel, made the comments on today's edition of Newstalk's 'The Pat Kenny Show'.
Cathal was speaking from Belmullet, after a visit to Blacksod lighthouse earlier in the day.
While the full force of the gusts havn't been seen in the West of the county, he said that the lighthouse "still had quite a large swell this morning (of) five to six meters."
He also projected that the Erris coastline is likely to be one of the areas experiencing the strongest gales, with winds set to reach between 110 and 120 kilometres per hour, and potentially climbing over 130 kilometres per hour and into the 'Status Red' zone.
"It is very much going to be the epicentre later on in the day of some of the strongest winds that we expect to see as we go through the afternoon and evening hours up along the west coast."
