Tributes have been paid to Belmullet man Oisin Gruddy
A MAYO secondary school has paid tribute to a former pupil who suddenly died in his home on St Patrick's Day morning.
St Brendan's College in Belmullet posted a tribute to former pupil Oisin Gruddy from Toorglass, Belmullet who passed away suddenly on St Patrick's Day. The sudden death of the young man was met with shock and sadness in the Erris town and as a result the St Patrick's Day parade was cancelled as a mark of respect to his family.
Oisin completed his Leaving Cert in St Brendan's College in 2022 and this afternoon the secondary school posted a tribute on its Facebook page describing Oisin as an outstanding student and a wonderful role model.
“It is with profound sadness that as a school community we remember Oisín, a cherished member of the Leaving Certificate Class of 2022. Oisín was an outstanding student, excelling in both academic and practical subjects, where his intelligence, skill, and dedication shone brightly. He was a young man of immense talent, quiet determination, and kindness, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

“Beyond his achievements, Oisín was a supportive friend, a hardworking student, and a wonderful role model. His presence brought warmth to the school community, and his generosity in helping others reflected his caring and selfless nature. His legacy of perseverance, kindness, and excellence will never be forgotten.
“Our thoughts are especially with Oisín’s heartbroken family, particularly his sister Treasa who is a member of this year’s Leaving Certificate class. No words can ease the pain of such a loss, but please know that Oisín’s light will continue to shine in the memories of all who had the honor of knowing him.
“May his kind and gentle soul rest in peace.”
Oisin is survived by his heartbroken parents Marty and Shirley and siblings Treasa and Iollan. His remains will repose at McDonnell’s Funeral Home, Belmullet on Wednesday evening from 5.30pm until 8.30pm.
His Funeral Mass will take place at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Belmullet on Thursday at 2pm followed by burial in Glencastle New Cemetery.
