Mayo boxer earns first pro win in Dubai

Mayo boxer Rachel ‘The Bullet’ Lally secured the first professional win of her boxing career as she beat Cameroon’s Marie Tsimi in a hugely impressive performance this evening.

Lally, from Belmullet, recorded the victory in a unanimous decision on the judges’ scorecards.

The protigée of Belmullet’s Golden Gloves Boxing Club left those in attendance at Alan Boxing’s ‘A New Dawn’ card in no doubt of where she was from.

Her coach, Coach Jalal, sported a Mayo GAA jersey in the red corner, and her celebrations comprised of two words: “C’mon Mayo.”

Her post-fight interview in the ring saw her mention her home county once more.

“Teacher by day, boxer by night. Not everyone can do it, but this strong Irish woman all the way from Mayo can do both, and do it well.”

The opening rounds saw Lally use her reach to her advantage. The opponent from the blue corner tried to close the distance in what was her professional debut. However, the eventual winner displayed a strong ring IQ to keep herself out of any danger and counter-punched well.

Tsimi flew out of the traps in Round Four and tried to make a bit more of a mark on proceedings, however Lally rolled with the punches.

Round Five saw the African silver medallist find a bit of a second wind as she displayed a solid improvement on earlier rounds.

However, there could be no disputing the winner of this one, and there was little question as to whose hand was going to be raised.

The win maintains Lallys unbeaten professional record following her draw in her maiden bout in November 2024.
