‘Knock-out show’ - Mayo boxer aims to bring the heat in Dubai

A Mayo pro boxer will be lacing up her gloves and taking to the ring in the Middle East this weekend.

Rachel ‘the Bullet’ Lally will be looking to get a first professional win under her belt in the Middle East as she takes on Cameroonian Marie Victorine Tsimi Onguene.

On the eve of sharing the ring with last year’s African silver medal winner on Alax Boxing’s ‘A New Dawn’ card in THE SPACE Dubai, Erris woman Lally will be hoping she can go one better and show her style against a tough opponent.

“I’m back again ready for another win,” she stated. “Camp is going really well, pushing myself to the limits and I feel more ready than ever for a knock-out show.”

Lally is a seasoned fighter and has already shown her pedigree with an Irish youth championship win in 2012 while training with Golden Gloves Boxing Club in her hometown, Belmullet.

Since moving to Dubai and training with Spartan Boxing Club, the southpaw recorded a unanimous decision win in a white-collar event before turning pro in November of last year.

Her first Middle East first vs Leya can be viewed here:

Her pro debut came against the Georgian Elene Sikmashvili, who came into the super-middleweight contest with nine wins (four by way of knockout) and eleven losses to her name.

Lally performed well in the bout and came away with a majority draw on the scorecards, to the confusion of those ringside who believed the Mayo native had won. Tomorrow night, she’ll be hoping to leave zero doubt in the judges’ minds and put her opponent to the canvas.

That being said, Tsimi Onguene represents a credible threat. Alongside her silver medal win last year at middleweight and her heavyweight silver one year prior, the Cameroonian has recorded back-to-back African wrestling championships, first in Casablanca in 2023 and in the Cairo edition in 2024.
