Mayo basketballer nominated for Sportswoman of the Year award

Mayo basketball star Hazel Finn has been nominated for the Sportswoman of the Year award.

The Trinity Sport scholar and Trinity Meteors player Finn received her nomination at the 21st annual Irish Times and Sport Ireland Sportswoman of the Year Awards 2025, which took place on 19 December 2025.

The Kiltimagh native was presented in person with Sportswoman of the Month for January, in recognition of her key role coming off the bench to help Liffey Celtics win the Paudie O’Connor National Cup Title against Killester.

Finn was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the final following her inspiring performance scoring 13 points and getting 8 rebounds.

In August this year, she transferred to Trinity Meteors and she has been making waves in the Basketball Ireland Women's Super League.

Finn was named as player of the month November for the serious numbers she has been putting up on the court.

She leads the league in total assists. Finn is also in the top 10 in four further categories: Total points, shot efficiency, total 2s and 3s made and three-point percentage.

The Ireland international scores an impressive 17.6 points per game. She also grabs 5.7 rebounds per game and collects 2 steals per game.

Track and field athlete Kate O’Connor was eventually named The Irish Times Sport Ireland Sportswoman of the Year 2025.
