The Mayo Meteors got back to winning ways with a dominant 93-67 win over Shannon Jets in the Basketball Ireland Development League (BIDL).

The Meteors put their visitors from Clare under pressure from the start. “We had a good game plan going in”, said Meteors’ Alex Evans. “We decided to press them from the start, with a full-court press. We oftentimes start games slow, so we said we can cause some turnovers, get some easy layups for ourselves. And that worked.”

The Meteors had a strong first quarter, leading 29-14, and they never let the Jets come back into the game. “Once you have the energy, then the energy is kind of contagious towards the team. If one guy is working really hard, everyone else will,” added Evans.

The win was the more impressive considering the Meteors are currently without experienced Colm Hegarty, who is still out injured with ligament damage in his ankle.

Scorers for the Meteors:

Paul Freeman (22), Alex Evans (20), Dan Nyland (14) and Conor Bermingham (14), Hermann Heyl (13), Jack Diffily (4), Gedas Milius (3) and James Manamon (3). The next match in the BIDL is an away fixture, scheduled for January 26, against the Limerick Sport Eagles.
