Gardaí arrested Kastriot Boza in connection with burglary of O'Hara's supermarket in Foxford last August

A MAN was remanded in custody after he appeared before a Mayo court charged with the burglary of a supermarket in Foxford last August.

Kastriot Boza of 40 Barons Hall Park, Balbriggan, Dublin appeared before Belmullet District Court charged with the burglary of O'Hara's supermarket in Foxford on August 25 last as well as a charge of handling stolen property.

The burglary of O'Hara's supermarket occurred at approximately 4.15am on August 25 last when a quantity of cigarettes were taken.

Following an investigation, Mr Boza, who is aged in his 40s, was arrested by members of the Ballina Detective Unit in Dublin on Tuesday, January 13 and subsequently brought to Ballina Garda Station where he was charged with the offence.

He appeared before Judge Sandra Murphy in Belmullet District Court this morning where Detective Garda Aiden Brennan explained that Mr Boza replied 'no comment' after he was charged.

Det Garda Brennan outlined that gardaí were objecting to Mr Boza being released on bail. However, Gary Mulchrone, solicitor for Mr Boza, explained that there would be no application for bail and there was consent to have his client remanded in custody.

Det Garda Brennan added that the investigation is a 'lengthy matter' and gardaí are awaiting DPP directions.

Judge Murphy remanded Mr Boza in custody to appear before Castlebar District Court on January 21. She also granted legal aid to Mr Mulchrone.
