Christmas shoppers in Ballina will be able to avail of periods of free parking in the north Mayo capital over the festive season.

Local councillors are expected to discuss Christmas parking at tomorrow's monthly meeting of the Ballina Municipal District where proposals have been put forward by the council management. For the last number of years, Ballina Municipal District has granted free periods of parking in the lead up to Christmas as part of efforts to promote Christmas and New Year shopping.

This year they are proposing to introduce free parking from 2pm in the town's council owned car parks to facilitate businesses and shoppers who will be visiting Ballina over the Christmas period.

The incentive if agreed by the local councillors will commence on Monday, December 8 and continue each day until Wednesday, December 31.
