CONNACHT SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTER-FINAL
Mayo v Sligo
MacHale Park, Sunday at 3.30 pm
The whistle had hardly blown in Croke Park last weekend before attention had swiftly turned to the Sligo clash.
Mayo will need to have taken a lot of lessons from the Kerry defeat, and Sligo represents a significant opportunity to showcase those.
The near neighbours have had a poor 2025, finishing squarely mid-table in Division Three.

ELVERYS SPORTS SUPER LEAGUE
Ballina Town v Conn Rangers
Belleek Park, Sunday at 2.30 pm
Conn Rangers have had an excellent start to their league campaign and, at present, sit atop the Super League summit, with Eoin Prendergast proving a handful for opposition defenders.
That being said, Sunday’s trip to Ballina represents a challenge, as they were one of the three sides to finish ahead of Rangers in 2024. Ballina Town have had a poor start to the season, but write them off here at your peril.
ABBVIE MAYO SFL DIVISION 1A
Ballina Stephenites v Breaffy
James Stephens Park, Saturday at 6 pm
This weekend brings with it the return of the club GAA leagues, and the glut of first-round games will give clubs and supporters a real show of how the new rules will play out in club games around the county.
Both 2024’s champions Stephenites and 2023 finalists Breaffy will see this as a chance to test their mettle early on in 2025 against another strong side and see how they’ll fare in the absence of some of their big hitters on Mayo duty.

CONNACHT U-17 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 3
Roscommon v Mayo
Hyde Park (Roscommon), Friday at 6.15 pm
It was a winning start for David Heaney and Tom Reilly’s minor side, as they withheld a Leitrim surge to win by 0-15 to 0-10 in the end. Fionn Ó Cinnseala was electric that day, scoring 0-7.
He and his teammates will need to bring their ‘A’ game on Friday against a strong Rossies side who swept Sligo aside on day one before edging Galway in Tuam last time out.
CONNACHT UNDER-16 LADIES FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 1
Galway v Mayo
Dunmore (Galway), Saturday at 4 pm
Francis Regan’s Under-16 side came agonisingly close to tasting All-Ireland glory in 2024. With twelve players available from last year and the hurt of losing out spurring them on, they’ll be looking to hit the ground running against the Tribeswomen.
The Green and Red host a plethora of talent from last season’s panel, including Amy Doherty, Isabelle Basquelle, and Aoibheann McNamara, so expect them to be a force to be reckoned with in 2025.
