THE Michael Davitt Museum in Straide will host a talk on one of Mayo's most prominent female revolutionaries who took part in the 1916 Easter Rising.
Killala-born Dr Kathleen Lynn will be the latest historical female figure to feature in the Michael Davitt Museum series of lectures celebrating women in Irish History.
The talk entitled Dr Kathleen Lynn: Revolutionary Doctor will consider the life and career of Dr Kathleen Lynn (1874-1955), a key figure in Ireland’s history in the early twentieth century.

As well as discussing her active support for the nationalist cause and role in the 1916 Rising, the talk will also focus on her contribution to the establishment of Ireland’s first infant hospital, St Ultan’s.
This talk will be delivered by Dr Yvonne McDermott lecturer on the History and Geography degree programme in ATU Mayo. Dr McDermott teaches history, archaeology and folklore. She completed her PhD in the University of Galway and has published a number of journal articles and book chapters on the mendicant orders of friars and other aspects of Irish history.
