Speaking following the announcement, DR Patten said that she relished the opportunity to lead the line in her hometown.
“It is an absolute honour to be named Grand Marshal for Ballina’s St Patrick’s Day Parade.
“Ballina has always been such a special place to me, and I’m thrilled to celebrate this occasion with my home community.”
Patten aims to make history as the first Irish person to go into space on Virgin Galactic’s Delta mission which is scheduled to take place in 2026/27.
Therefore, the festival theme of ‘Reach for the Stars’ carries a particular significance.
Ballina Chamber of Commerce president Mary Moyles said:
“Having Dr. Norah Patten as our Grand Marshal is an incredible honour, as she represents ambition, perseverance, and achievement.
“She is an inspiration to young people across Ireland, and we couldn’t be prouder to have her leading this year’s celebrations.”
Ballina’s St Patrick’s Day Parade 2025 is scheduled for 3pm on Monday, March 17.
