Mayo Sports Partnership has hailed Bike Week Mayo 2026 as another major success, with hundreds of people of all ages taking part in cycling events across the county.
Following the completion of its evaluation process, Mayo Sports Partnership revealed that 735 participants took part in 31 events, including school cycles, community rides, bike repair workshops, inclusive cycling sessions and family-friendly activities.
Schools played a significant role in this year’s programme, accounting for 400 participants across 16 events.
Mayo Sports Partnership extended its thanks to the clubs, schools, community groups, volunteers, committee members, partners and participants who helped deliver the week’s activities. The organisation also acknowledged the work of the Mayo Sports Partnership team and the Bike Week Steering Committee.
Outdoor Recreation Officer Kieran Reilly said Bike Week showcases the many benefits of cycling.
“Bike Week continues to highlight the many benefits of getting active through cycling. It is a simple, enjoyable and accessible way for people of all ages and abilities to improve their health and wellbeing while spending time outdoors,” he said.
He added that Mayo is fortunate to have an extensive range of cycling facilities, including its Greenways, scenic coastal routes, quiet rural roads and community amenities.
“It was wonderful to see so many people getting involved and discovering or rediscovering cycling in their local area,” he said.
