Oisín McGovern began contributing sports reports to The Mayo News in October 2017. He began work experience on The Fairgreen in Westport in the summer of 2020 after reporting for the paper during that year's general election. Hailing from Carnacon but living in Hollymount in Mayo's 'Deep South', Oisín has a keen interest in County Mayo; its people, culture, history, heritage, geography and, of course, its Gaelic football team. Oisín holds an MA in Journalism from the University of Galway and is heavily involved with his local GAA Club, Ballintubber, where he has served as PRO.
