The Crossmolina native will be taking to the tarmac in the Italian stages of the WRC for his maiden race

A Mayo native is taking to the road and aiming for glory in the World Rally Championships in Italy this weekend.

Lorcan Moore, originally from Crossmolina, will have his helmet on and his pace notes studied to perfection as he gears up for his maiden WRC event, the WRC Rally Italia Sardinia.

Moore is a co-driver for the event and will be sitting alongside Qatari Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari for the duration of the three-day series, which runs from today(Friday, June 6) until Sunday.

The pair will be competing in a Citroen C3 Rally2 and have previously raced in the Qatar International Rally, which was Moore’s FIA Middle East Rally in February 2024.

The pair finished fifth on that occasion.

Moore is no stranger to the tarmac, having raced from Oman to Barbados, and even Mayo, since his first time behind the wheel, in a Mark Two Ford Escort at the Mayo Stages Rally in 2015.

Now, ten years on, the 26-year-old is hoping to put that experience calling facenotes to good use on the world stage in the Mediterranean.
