As storm Boelo approaches Ireland, Met Éireann issued an orange weather warning earlier today. And now Mayo GAA have reacted in rescheduling county finals which were due to take place this weekend in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park Castlebar.

An Orange weather warning has forced Mayo GAA to rearrange fixtures for the upcoming bank holiday weekend.

On Friday morning, Met Éireann issued an orange wind warning for Saturday, October 24:

Storm Boelo is bringing Gale force westerly winds with severe and damaging gusts. Prepare for impacts: Damage to already weakened structures, damage to power lines, power outages. Disruption and delays to public transport likely (air, rail, bus, ferry), danger of fallen trees, large coastal waves, loose objects displaced.

Met Éireann have warned people to expect very difficult travelling conditions, dangerous conditions at sea.

The orange wind warning for Mayo is in place from 14:00 Saturday October 24 to 09:00 Sunday, October 25. Additionally, there is a yellow rain warning in place for Mayo on Saturday, from 04:00 until 15:00.

There was a similar situation last year when Storm Amy hit the county in early October. Mayo GAA made the decision to postpone all fixtures in the Senior, Intermediate, Junior, and Junior 'B' Championships due to the impending storm.

"Player and supporter safety is of paramount importance to Mayo GAA,” a statement read back then.

The 2024 county senior final was also postponed when Storm Ashley meant the game between Knockmore and Ballina Stephenites had to be moved to a later date.

Now, Mayo GAA have reacted:

“Mayo GAA wish to advise supporters that, in light of the current weather warnings issued by Met Éireann and with the safety of players, supporters and all those attending our games a priority, the Egan Jewellers Intermediate Football Final and the Treanlaur Catering Junior B Football Finals scheduled for tomorrow, have been postponed.

The decision has been taken in the interests of everyone attending the games. We thank supporters for their understanding and cooperation.”

When are the Mayo GAA Intermediate and Junior B finals?

Sunday, October 25th

12pm: Treanlaur Catering Junior A Football Final – Ardagh v Eastern Gaels

1.45pm: Egan Jewellers Intermediate Football Final – Ballinrobe v Davitts

3.30pm: Senior Football Final – Castlebar v Castlebar Mitchels

Monday, October 26th

1pm: Treanlaur Catering Junior B Football Final – Ballycastle v Swinford

Ticket Information

Supporters who purchased tickets for Saturday’s games will automatically receive a refund. Those wishing to attend the rescheduled fixtures this weekend will need to purchase new tickets.

Mayo GAA thank all supporters for their understanding and continued support and look forward to welcoming everyone to Hastings Insurance MacHale Park for the rescheduled County Finals over the weekend.

As the orange wind warning expires on Sunday at 9am, the championship matches pencilled in for Sunday in Hastings Insurance MacHale Park will probably not be affected by the current weather warning. This of course, is subject to change if the warning were to be extended or renewed.
