Mayo GAA manager Andy Moran and his players will return battle-hardened from Monaghan. They seemed in full control at half-time, but everyone kind of anticipated a fightback from the Farney men, as they had done before.
Eventually, due to crucial interventions from Ryan O’Donoghue and Kobe McDonald, Mayo got the win over the line and will be in the winners’ pot come the draw for Round 2A on Tuesday.
We run the rule over the Mayo players’ performances on Sunday:

17. Fenton Kelly: 7/10. Subbed on in the 58th minute. Brought speed. Had a few darting runs forward, but also a dangerous turnover as he loosely kicked the ball straight to the opposition in front of Mayo's two-point arc.

18. Aidan O'Shea: 7/10. Came on in the 58th minute to make his 100th championship appearance for Mayo, as the first outfield player in Gaelic football, the Breaffy man has achieved that feat. He wouldn't have a lasting impact on the game, but was always a safe option for a carry and pop pass to steady the ship.

19. Diarmuid O'Connor: Came on too late for a rating. But good to see him getting game-time now as Mayo will need his experience and strength going forward in the Championship.

20. Jack Livingstone: 8/10. He got his championship debut today. And the Breaffy man pulled off seven or eight brilliant saves. His kick-outs were very solid, went short occasionally in the right moments. Fearless. A performance to remember for him.
