Paul Keane from The Neale just opened his new pub ‘Ó Caithain Goose’ in Lanzarote this weekend. And what a legendary one it was. The historic All-Ireland win for the Mayo team led to fierce celebrations by Mayo people out on holiday and the pub had to close on Monday as it had run out of beer supplies.

“It was mental here, we couldn't fit another person inside the bar.”

It was coincidence that the pub opened for the All-Ireland final weekend. “Last week, one fella said to me, he said, Paul Keane, you're so f***ing lucky, they’ll probably win the All-Ireland the weekend you open.”

And it happened. Paul was actually optimistic ahead of the game, even against hot favourites Kerry.

“It's the one year that none of us think they'll win it, that's the year they'll probably win it, you know. “

He advertised the match on a sign outside the pub “Mayo v Clifford”. When the game was won, the celebrations kicked off big time at ‘Ó Caithain Goose’.

“It was the most spectacular day I've ever witnessed in my entire life. It was dynamite. I swear to God, people, the whole pub started crying. Including myself. We started partying and we stopped at three o'clock in the morning.”

The customers were thirsty and it quickly showed.

“I had to close yesterday, on the Monday. We ran out of all my beers. I even borrowed four kegs from another pub beside me. And I sold all of them. It was just ridiculous. They were brilliant.”

A legendary weekend for the Mayo team, the people of Mayo and everyone who is part of the Mayo heritage and diaspora around the globe.
