The GAA star and TV star spoke on his neighbour’s meeting with Kerry in the hunt for Sam Maguire

Galway GAA and Love Island star Sean Fitzgerald has offered his perspective on near-neighbours Mayo appearing in the All-Ireland Football Championship Final against Kerry.

‘Fitzy’, who has represented the Tribesmen for multiple seasons, was speaking after he and his partner Lola caused waves on the popular ITV reality show, offering to leave after an emotional dumping.

When on the show, life in the outside world is kept from contestants in the villa. Therefore, the Bearna clubman was unaware of the entire happenings of the All-Ireland series.

The last time Fitzgerald saw the Green and Red in action before entering Love Island was that Connacht semi-final defeat to Roscommon.

When he returned to the outside world, it would have come as quite a shock to see Andy Moran’s men in the big decider.

“F***ers. Honestly like,” the defender stated on the Parole Sans Filtre podcast. “I think when I'd been dumped, one of the worst things was going online and seeing Mayo are in the All-Ireland final. Like how?

“It's like when you come out of something, and Covid has happened, it's that big of a deal. It's just madness. They would be our biggest rivals, so seeing them there is just mad.”

However, Fitzgerald, who lined out at full-back when his county faced Mayo in the National League this year, took the opportunity to wish his provincial rivals well in Sunday’s decider against the Kingdom.

“Do you know what, they are neighbours so we do wish them all the best, to be fair at the end of the day. They're in Connacht, that's our province. We'd rather them than Kerry because Kerry win it every year.”
