Only days separate the big day in Croke Park and the start of the Club Championships

The hype train is at full speed in Mayo ahead of the All-Ireland final in just under two weeks’ time.

Andy Moran’s men were emphatic on Saturday as they put on a clinic to dispatch Louth and punch their ticket to the big day in Croke Park on Sunday, July 26.

The whole county is gearing up for the decider. However, in tandem with the buildup, the buildup to the pinnacle of the club football season is just around the corner.

On Friday, July 31, only five days after Andy Moran’s men contest the All-Ireland final, eight clubs will play their first games in the Mayo Junior Club Championship final.

Killala face Achill, Northern Gaels lock horns with Ballycroy, Eastern Gaels head west to Tourmakeady, while Kilmovee Shamrocks host Swinford.

One week later, 22 games will take place across the Senior, Intermediate, and Junior grades.

The proximity of those fixtures to the inter-county decider presents a touch of congestion for inter-county players looking to represent their clubs.

However, The Mayo News understands that there is no plan to reschedule any of the Round One Club Championship fixtures for a later date.
