The much-loved Paddington Bear statue on the Fairgreen in Westport is set to temporarily leave town next week for what has been described as “a little rest, relaxation and refurbishment”.

The beloved statue, which has become a favourite photo stop and local landmark, is expected to return to the Fairgreen in approximately 10 days looking “shiny and new.”
Sharing the update, Cllr Mulroy wished the iconic bear safe travels ahead of its brief absence, reassuring the public that the world-famous character will soon be back in place.
Unveiled in October 2024, the Paddington Bear statue has become a landmark for the West Mayo town. The bear is one a trail of statues dotted throughout the UK and Ireland which celebrated the release of the film ‘Paddington in Peru’.
The temporary removal is expected to be welcomed by locals eager to see the bear restored and refreshed before returning to greet visitors once again.
