Bank Holiday weekender returns to Mayo Island

There is a stellar line-up for the three-day event over the June Bank Holiday weekend on Clare Island
Mr Whippy Soundsystem and friends are looking forward to welcoming the groovers home to Clare Island, Co Mayo, for their 3-day Bank Holiday weekender on Friday May 29; Saturday May 30 and Sunday May 31.
72 hours of magic on Clare Island, the legendary Bank Holiday Weekender is back for its 7th edition! A gathering for music lovers, dreamers, and kindred spirits of all ages, set on the enchanting shores of Clare Island.
28 plus artists will be spinning and playing live over three days and nights—Jazz, Funk, Neo-Soul, Electronica, Afrobeat, Reggae, Disco, and everything in between. Vinyl grooves, tropical rhythms, and live performances that’ll move your soul.
Dance under the sun, full moon, and stars with Croagh Patrick watching over Clew Bay. Feel the bass rumble through Mr Whippy’s legendary @Vas-Audio FAYA soundsystem, disco balls swirling, neon palm trees glowing, and the iconic Mr Whippy ice cream van DJ booth spreading love and good vibes.
Pop-up delights include Soundslice Pizza, Carl’s BBQ, Lennox Goes West dinner party, and even a Reggae Yoga session to keep you fueled and zen.
Whether you’re 18 or 99, flying solo or with your crew, this is your invitation to connect, dance, and soak up the magic of Clare Island.
Mr Whippy Soundsystem is the brain-child of architect, record-collector and DJ, Dermot McCabe. Dermot restored his vintage 1972 ice cream van into a mobile vinyl-record treasure trove DJ-booth, 20 years on the road spreading joy performing at summer festivals.
The Mr Whippy Soundsystem stage will be at Bay View House and Sailor’s Bar beer garden, overlooking the sea of Clew Bay back towards Croagh Patrick and Westport, complemented by 2 giant neon palm trees giving a tropical discotheque vibe, a sparkling mirror-ball, festival lights twinkling and colourful bunting flags flapping under a bright blue sky, and music selected by vinyl record collectors played through Mr Whippy’s high-quality, rib-tickling, bass-rumbling FAYA Sound-System, hand-made at Cologne’s VAS Audio workshop.
Magical island
The beauty of Clare Island itself is the real sun, full moon and star of the show on this calm and magical island.
Weekenders are always mindful and reminded of respect for the Island’s beauty and its welcoming residents while guests in Clare Island. Attendees are asked to be sound, leave no trace and bring all waste away back to the mainland on Monday, leaving the island and the campsite exactly as found on Friday. The island campsite and facilities are available at €10 per person per night, payable at the Community Centre. Campers best come prepared with some provisions, and expect Irish summer weather with rain-gear, sunscreen and mosquito repellent, all rolled into one ball of sunshine funtime.
There is a car park at Roonagh Pier, where cars may be left over the weekend. As the car park can tend to be very full on the Bank Holiday Weekender, attendees are asked to please allow time to find a spot and walk on board the Ferry. The ferry crossing is around 20-minutes and is €17 return for foot passengers with www.Clareislandferry.com.
And when the sun sets... the stars rise! And what a stellar line up music-makers, record-collectors, and party-starters are joining in onboard the Mr Whippy Soundsystem.
