Colm Conlon operation manger presents Ger Dawson with Cuchulain trophy for his years service to An Post in Westport
Many fond memories from down through the years have come rolling back in one Mayo post office as it bids farewell to one of the most well-recognised faces in the office.
During his 45 years working in Westport Post Office, Ger Dawson was integral to the branch's success.
He has held many roles down through the years. He operated as a clerk and in the sorting office on The Mall, before moving into the role of manager.
He was a key part of the separation between retail and delivery services as the delivery operation moved to the Delivery Service Unit at Westport Industrial Estate in 2018.
The new delivery hub saw mail from Achill, Aughagower, Ballycroy, Killawalla, Louisburgh, and Westport all come into one place, and Ger oversaw a smooth transition to the new model.
"Ger’s personal approach and the respect he showed his colleagues helped create a positive and supportive workplace," a statement read. "He is wished a long and happy retirement by all his past and present colleagues."
Colm Conlon, the operations manager in the area, presented Ger with the Cú Chulainn trophy at the Delivery Service Unit on Friday, February 27, in appreciation of the decades of service given to An Post.
