Holy Trinity Church in Westport will reopen next Sunday.
Holy Trinity Church, Westport, will reopen for services this Sunday, November 30, after being closed due to damage from Storm Éowyn.
The reopening comes after a 10-month closure due to the dangerous condition of the ceiling over the nave and ornately decorated sanctuary.
Announcing the first phase of reopening on Holy Trinity’s social media, Revd Suzanne Cousins confirmed that stage one of repairs has been completed, inspected and reported. The second stage of work is due to take place early in the New Year.
The reopening comes as the First Sunday of Advent is set to take place this weekend. Limitations to access and seating will be in place.
Services have been held in St Mary's Church since Holy Trinity was damaged, and that support has been warmly acknowledged over the past number of months.
“We are grateful beyond words to St Mary's Church, Westport and Fr John Kenny for their generous hospitality over the last 10 months,” said Reverend Cousins.
The initial reopening, from November 30, will be a services-only opening, until Stage Two is completed. This coming Wednesday (November 26) the Midweek Holy Communion service will again be in St Mary's side chapel, at 10.30am. Arrangements beyond this week will be announced shortly.
