Mayo school organise children’s online safety talk amidst growing concern

In response to growing concerns about children’s online safety, the parents’ committee at St Colmcille’s National School (The Quay School, Westport) has organised a free information evening for parents and guardians on Monday, December 1.

The event will feature cybersecurity expert Aoife Noone, founder of the THINK SMART programme, which is dedicated to teaching lifelong online safety and mindset skills. The programme was established amid increasing evidence linking the rise of mental health challenges to the misuse of social media and smart technology.

The THINK SMART initiative aims to equip both parents and teachers with practical knowledge and tools to help young people navigate social media and digital devices safely. The programme merges cybersecurity insights with high-performance mindset skills. Local community gardai and Deputy Keira Keogh will also address the event.

The talk is open to all parents and guardians and will take place at the Castlecourt Hotel, Westport, on Monday, December 1, at 7.30pm.
